An organization helping kids here in the Mountain State is getting a big boost, thanks to a West Virginia celebrity.Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr. sang the national anthem over the weekend at the West Virginia Power game.
He also took time to show his support for the Children’s Home Society of West Virginia, making a $5,000 donation to the charity.
Highmark Blue Cross-Blue Shield and the Power have teamed up to donate $5 to the home society every time a power pitcher throws a strikeout. It is part of the “strikeouts for charity campaign.”
“This $5,000 will have a huge impact on the Children’s Home Society,” Mary White of the Children’s Home Society said. “Yearly we take care of about 13,000 children and families across the state. $5,000 will make a great impact on that.
The children’s home society is celebrating 118 years this year.
Right now in West Virginia, more than 4,000 children are in “out-of-home care” with approximately 1,200 of them available for adoption.
